What is a life coach?
A life coach is a trained professional who aims to help and guide individuals to make, meet and exceed personal and professional goals. They support clients on a journey to rediscover their own strength and abilities.

By harnessing techniques based on core psychological principles and intuition, coaches empower clients and provide a toolkit of teachings to confidently face challenges and overcome barriers.

A coach won’t tell you what to do, instead, they will use questioning techniques to help you uncover the answers yourself.

They’ll also provide an objective and empowering environment for you to explore any challenges you’re facing.

WHAT IS THE OBJECTIVE OF A COACHING ENGAGEMENT?

The objective is to focus on your potential (your unrealized ability, capacity, or possibility) by leveraging your strengths, uncovering what’s in your way, and targeting the areas you are most interested in addressing to help you reach your goals more effectively.

A certified life coach is someone qualified to challenge, motivate, encourage and support you in achieving your goals.

Who can have a life coach?
The simple answer is all types of people can use a life coach at some time in their life.
However, there are some common characteristics of people who have a life coach; a deep desire for change, a need for direction and focus in achieving their dreams.

Research has shown that people who have a life coach remain more focused and gain quicker results with the support and guidance of a coach

WHAT ABOUT CONFIDENTIALITY?

What happens in our sessions stays in our sessions.

We fully understand the value of your trust, and we take every precaution to safeguard it. We will provide you with a detailed description of the ethical code that governs every client-coach relationship we enter. This document not only places our standards before you in plain text, but also codifies our commitment to you, the client, and your progress.

What happens during a session?
Coaching sessions will typically last between 45 minutes to an hour.

Often, after an initial assessment, sessions can be conducted face-to-face or remotely, usually over the phone, over email, via video call
During the session, your coach will ask you some questions, such as what you want to achieve in life, what areas you’re unhappy with and where you’d like to see yourself in the future. Although a coach will work with you, it’s often up to you to challenge or reflect upon certain ideas you have to help you move forward with your life. You will never be forced to make any decisions you don’t feel comfortable with and all sessions will be confidential, allowing you to explore your thoughts and feelings privately in a safe space.

Coaching is often seen as a partnership between you and your coach, who will gently encourage you to explore how to make positive changes in your life based on your aspirations. A coach should also offer support and feedback to help you to stay focused on your goals and will occasionally set you tasks and objectives to work on outside of sessions.

How long are coaching sessions?
Coaching sessions can be weekly, fortnightly or monthly, whatever you feel comfortable with.
How is life coaching different from therapy or counselling?
Although both coaches and counsellors offer a support system to help you gain strength and clarity to move forward.
Coaching deals with where you are now and where you want to be.

Counsellors are often interested in helping you deal with past trauma.

However, there are forms of therapy such as (CBT) cognitive behavioural therapy that doesn’t focus too much on the past.

Life coaching is action-orientated while counsellors and therapists are more coping and healing orientated.
